The Goal
To design a robust project that reflects myself as a designer, past, present, and future that also represents the type of designer I would like to be.
Why A Card Game?
From when I was a young boy I always loved trading card games. Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Magic The Gathering were things I always looked at when going into a store and I loved collecting, trading, designing strategies, and playing with my friends. This love hasn't changed.
When this project was introduced in my design capstone, I really had to think about what kind of designer I wanted to be. My design interests over the past four years have fallen into user experience design, user interface design, and product design and I felt that a trading card game encompassed aspects from all three fields of design as well as allowing to design something that resonates with me on a deeper level.
A set of 29 cards were designed for Tavern Brawl TCG. The card template was designed to be playful and have defined space for text to make it easily readable. Each card was hand drawn.
Card Design
Booster Pack
Three variants of 10 card booster packs were designed for the game.
Each variant represents a different card in the game: the Acclaimed Critic, Head Chefs, and Traveling Bard.
Stater Set Packaging
Two variants of a starter set.
